Assessment of the Nuclear Infrastructure of the Republic of Zambia project has ended
On December 21st, 2018 within the Contract for assessment and development of the Nuclear Infrastructure of the Republic of Zambia the Final Report on Evaluation of the Nuclear infrastructure of the Republic of Zambia was officially presented to Prof. Nkandu Luo - the Minister of Higher Education and Dr. Ronald Msiska – Secretary to the Cabinet Office of the Republic of Zambia. The presentation of the Report constitutes a concluding part of the assessment of the Nuclear Infrastructure project within the region implemented by JSC “Rusatom Service”.
“Nuclear energy infrastructure is the key for the welfare of the country, and at the same there are three main pillars in developing nuclear energy sector - development of the nuclear infrastructure, establishment of appropriately skilled manpower and further interuniversity cooperation between Russia and Zambia” – highlighted Prof. Nkandu Luo.
The Final Report encompassed the results of the expert missions conducted in September 2018, where more than 30 experts from various organizations under Rosatom State Corporation held a series of meetings and discussions with the representatives of 30 Zambian ministries and organizations – stakeholders to the nuclear energy programme development. As an outcome, Russian experts described the status of the Zambian Nuclear Infrastructure development and gave their recommendations for the purposes of establishment of sufficient and effective nuclear infrastructure to support construction and safe operation of the Center for Nuclear Science and Technology (CNST).
Approach how to reduce the recommendations of the Final Report and Roadmaps on Nuclear Infrastructure development to practice was presented to Zambian colleagues by representatives of the JSC “Rusatom Service” in the framework of seminar, as well as practical insights on integrated management system and capacity building in the region.
